"That destiny is not found in Islamic extremism or politics, but in the Christian Arab community ..."

Each time we meet with Arab Christian leaders, whether here in Israel, or in the context of Global Gatherings, there are new levels of revelation about God's destiny for Arabs and Jews. At the recent Gathering in Jerusalem, one of the Arab pastors pointed out that there are only four people in the Bible who were given names before their birth: Ishmael, Isaac, John the Baptist and Yeshua.

The pastor saw a parallel between Isaac and Yeshua, and therefore a parallel between Ishmael and John the Baptist. In other words, the destiny of the Arab Christian community is to pave the way for end time revival, the Messianic remnant in Israel and the Second Coming, in a similar manner to John preparing the way for Yeshua's first coming.

Focussing on the Positive

There were many sins and mistakes in the personal biographies of our forefathers, including Hagar and Ishmael and Abraham and Sarah. Despite these sins and mistakes, God still has a destiny for the Jewish people and for the Arabs as well. We have a great challenge to look past the negative histories of our peoples in order to find God's positive destiny for each.

Even the thought that the Arab peoples have a positive destiny, is scandalous to some of us as Jews.

Perhaps in a similar way, even the thought that the Jewish people have a positive destiny is scandalous to some Christians and Arabs.

The destiny of Ishmael and the Arab peoples is connected to the Jewish people because of the Messianic covenant that came through Isaac. Messianic Jews and Arab Christians need one another.

Predestined Plan

Ishmael was circumcised into the Abrahamic covenant before Isaac was even born. God promised to bless him; and named him before his birth because He had a pre-destined plan for his life. One Egyptian pastor shared with me that Ishmael, and therefore the Arab peoples today, were destined to be Isaac's protective "big brother". Ishmael was strong, warrior-like and prosperous.

Today's Arab Christian leaders are beginning to see a divine calling to help the Messianic Jewish community in Israel, and to recognize God's covenant purpose for the nation of Israel. Let us remember that in every nation God's destiny is not found in the "unbelieving majority" but in the "believing minority". This is true for Europe, for Asia, for America, for Africa, for the Arabs and for the Jews.

The Arab peoples have a positive destiny that was pre-destined by God. That destiny is not found in Islamic extremism or politics, but in the Christian Arab community: the born-again, Spirit-filled, Bible-believing remnant present in each nation. We are in covenant with them through our mutual faith in Yeshua, and we believe they will stand with us and our nation in the difficult times ahead.

"Many from our congregation and other congregations in Tel Aviv have caught the fire and joined in."

Some of the intercessors, inspired by the sermons of Todd White and Torben Sondergaard, have started going out on the streets of Tel Aviv, praying for the sick and sharing about Yeshua according to Luke 10. They have come back with testimonies of healings and open hearts. Many from our congregation and other congregations in Tel Aviv have caught the fire and joined in.

For several weeks already, there have been groups of believers on the streets of Tel Aviv almost every day, sharing the gospel, praying for people and extending help to those in need. There is a WhatsApp group dedicated to this purpose, and it is growing as more believers are exposed to what the Lord is doing. Even believers who were shy about their faith until now have started going out to share in the streets as well as in their places of work or study.

Please pray for this move of the Spirit to grow in strength, for God's protection and for love, humility and unity amongst us. These are the ingredients that will defeat the plans of the enemy and advance God's Kingdom.

"Our vision is that Tiferet Yeshua would continue to grow as a dynamic, Spirit-filled Hebrew-speaking community that will have a profound effect on Tel Aviv ..."

Friends, Shalom!

My name is Gil Afriat.

I was born in Israel and raised in a secular family. During my time in the army I met my wife, Tamar, who came from the US to study for a year at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Our relationship developed, and she led me to America and, more importantly, to Yeshua!

Becoming a true follower of Yeshua was a process of a couple of years. I first accepted the truth intellectually, but only after reading "Why Me?" by Jacob Damkani, I accepted it deeply into my heart. (Jacob is an Israeli believer who has been sharing the Gospel in Israel since the early '80s.) Seeing clearly the fulfillment of Biblical messianic prophecies in Yeshua and God's hand in the history of my people for the last 2000 years, I was completely transformed.

My wife and I lived in the US for 8 years where we had our 3 children, grew in faith and served the Lord, until 2007 when we moved back to Israel. We knew that the Lord was calling us to serve Him in the Land among our people.

We started attending Tiferet Yeshua in Tel Aviv and felt at home with the family of believers there. I continued to work as an engineer in high tech. However, with each passing year it was clear that God was calling us to pastoral ministry. I served as an elder and was on the regular teaching rotation for several years. Tamar also ministered, leading worship and the women's group. We knew that God was calling us to pastor and lead the congregation at some point, but it was important to us not to rush, and to do it in God's timing. Frankly, we hoped that His timing would be later rather than sooner, but by the end of 2015, the Lord showed us clearly that it is NOW.

At the same time, our then pastor, Ron Cantor, was sensing that God was calling him to split his time between the US and Israel. When Ron approached me about becoming the new pastor, it was a clear confirmation that God was at work.

In mid 2016 Asher Intrater, who serves as apostolic authority over the congregation, laid hands on me, together with the elders. Now Tamar and I joyfully lead the congregation together with a wonderful team that the Lord has brought here. Our vision is that Tiferet Yeshua would continue to grow as a dynamic, Spirit-filled Hebrew-speaking community that will have a profound effect on Tel Aviv - the city that never sleeps. We pray that one day that moniker will not be because young people are out all night partying, but because they are fully awake and on fire for Yeshua!
