Dear Faithful Friend,
The days are passing too quickly but in a wonderful way. We are having a special time with our family, different loved ones are coming to be with us and Jackie and I are spending precious and intimate time together. How much we need each other and how much we need the presence of God in these days.
It's Shabbat morning and I have opened our home for several hours today and tomorrow for those who want to come and spend time with us to fellowship and pray.
Before us is the coming surgery. We need and are believing for a miracle. God is for us and I know that all things work to the good. As we live these last few days before the surgery on Tuesday, (I'll be admitted on Monday) the amazing wonder of the life of God continues to explode and grow within me.
In him, I am the light of the world. By God's amazing grace, I am filled with his love and encouragement. Although the events before us are very challenging, my walk in him only deepens. And in some amazing and wonderful way, my life is constantly being used by him.
This morning I was up early. My son, Evan and his wife, Iris and children have been with us for a few days. I wanted as much time with them as I could get. The younger two grandchildren were up first and after I made them delicious pancakes, we went for a lovely walk. We had a wonderful time and I was able to speak to them of the love of God as we walked along the way and looked at the beautiful flowers growing. They are only 4 and 7 and they do not grasp all that I am saying but I believe that seeds are being planted and watered. God uses me! He uses all of us who want to fulfill his destiny and calling in our lives. But it is our choice. By God's grace, my answer is "yes, Lord use me." And he does.
We were almost home when I met a woman from our neighborhood that I hadn't seen in a very long time but have known for years. Before we changed the time of our congregational meeting to Shabbat from Friday afternoon so many years ago, we used to sit with her and a few other neighbors by the pool every Saturday morning during the summer months for several years. We would swim, talk and eat. It was a blessed season. They heard of our faith and they felt our love.
When I met her on the way today, she asked me how I was feeling. I thought she had heard of my current situation but it quickly became clear that she hadn't. So I shared with her our battle and highlighted the wonder of God in our lives. I told her of the trust and peace that has gripped me, even in this most difficult moment.
I saw she was open and listening and so I shared again with her the reality of God's love. I spoke of the desire of our Father in heaven to be close to us. I told her how starting with Adam and Eve sin had broken God's heart and how it had separated us from him. And because of his great love for us, he had sent his son, Yeshua to take our sins upon himself. And as we believed and accepted that simple truth, we entered into his precious presence forever.
We spoke for twenty minutes (the children had returned home) and God's love poured out from me. She was touched and no doubt what I spoke of entered her spirit. I am fairly certain that no one has ever shared with her in this way before. Amen ... one plants, another waters, God brings the increase.
The surgery is complex and dangerous - more so the second time around but my soul finds rest in God. He is for us, and there is nothing in all creation that can separate me from his love. Forty one years ago this month, I received the King of kings into my life. He has ruled. He has supplied. He has given me more than I could ever have imagined or hoped for and I continue to abide in him, the safest place I know.
We love you and thank you for your love, for your support and for all your prayers. To God be the glory.
We send you our love from Zion,
