Dear Faithful Friend,
The summer has arrived! Following a lovely spring, we are enjoying the warmer weather. In celebration of the first week of real summer and the beginning of vacation from school, a hundred members of the congregation traveled to the Golan Heights. They spent two nights on a beautiful kibbutz located just a short kilometer from the Syrian border. The time was very blessed for all who attended. There were special classes for the parents, activities for the children and wonderful meetings with the entire congregation. And very importantly, there were also times for everyone just to hang out and enjoy each other, going fruit picking and spending some fun time together in the pool.
We thank the Lord for these days that enabled people some time out from their busy lives to come together as a spiritual family. We know that beyond any doubt the foundation of the Body of Messiah has to be relationship with God and relationship with each other. The deepening of love and relationship is a necessary development if we are going to become a true "body" and not just another institutional congregation. We must learn to demonstrate the love of God in our daily lives with each other if we are going to show the world that we are disciples of Yeshua. We do believe the harvest is upon us and we will soon be seeing Israelis coming to faith in great numbers. And we want them to be drawn by the reality that they observe and feel in us - his love being made manifest among us and pouring out onto them.
When I look back on those early days in the Lord, I know that I was drawn to faith because I witnessed something I had never seen or felt before: people with such a sincere and powerful love for God which was not "religious" but which overflowed to me in a way I had never experienced in my life. Expressing His love to the lost is our most powerful evangelistic tool! And every of us has the same incredible calling to allow this supernatural love of God within us to touch the lost.
The time of harvest is upon us. We can feel it in the spirit! It is our hope that all of us, wherever we live will be active and aggressive in this truth and that all of us will see an amazing harvest of the lost in these days.
Our congregation in the heart of Jerusalem is doing great. Most weeks there are over 200 that attend our meetings. What amazing growth from when we started this congregation in Jerusalem 12 years ago with 15 people! Being an Israeli congregation in the heart of Jerusalem, one of the challenges we face is an increasing number of international visitors that come each week. Our first responsibility is of course to build up and establish the local Body and to encourage being a spiritual family. At the same time, we want to welcome our brothers and sisters from the nations and to help impart a deeper understanding of God's love and calling on the nation of Israel.
Israel is experiencing a record year in tourism and the expectation is that this will continue to increase. And so many of the tourists are sincere believers who want to experience some of the Messianic movement in Israel. We are so grateful to all our friends from the nations of the world who stand with us and pray and support us. So please join us in praying that we would achieve the right balance between these two goals - establishing a family with local believers that will be attractive to other Israelis and welcoming those who come to visit.
The Ongoing Battle
I am continuing to stand in the battle against cancer. I had one treatment of the biological drug and it had very little negative side effects. The second treatment is scheduled for next Monday. I am happy to report that I am feeling well and my energy has been good. We are so appreciative of all your prayers and for all those who write to encourage us. We are convinced that the prayers of the saints accomplish mighty things in the spirit. Please keep praying!
And we praise God that He is doing wonderful things in our relationship with Him as this battle continues. We are daily enriched and our faith deepened by his power and love. We invest hours every day listening to the Word of God, praying in the Spirit and exercising faith in his healing power.
Although we are somewhat more limited by this personal health crisis, we are endeavoring to be a blessing wherever we are able and to advance his Kingdom. We continue to maintain our relationships with many in the congregation. Every week we have people come to spend time with us, eat meals together and in general just share our lives. This time is precious and although I no longer serve as the senior pastor in the congregation, God is still using our lives to bless many!
Because of the generosity of those of you who support us financially, we have been able to contribute to bringing humanitarian aid to Israel, to help the pro life movement as well as helping many individuals in need. We also help the congregation support the younger leaders.
No matter what happens, we are pressing on! We stand on the truth that what the enemy means for harm, God will work to the good! We do not throw away our confidence but we persevere. We are not those who shrink back and are destroyed, but those who believe and are saved! (Hebrews10:35-39)
We bless you with all of our hearts. "The righteous shall live by faith" and as we exercise that reality, we will see the glory of God flooding our homes, our families, our congregations and the unsaved communities around us.
We send you our love from Zion,
