Dear Faithful Friend,
At one point for all of us who believe, God entered our hearts in a personal way. In that moment our life was transformed and our "worldly" aspirations were replaced with the high calling of His Kingdom. As we were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, the desires of the Lord's heart were ignited in our hearts and we began to look to attain his goals, not ours. Obviously the work is ongoing, and as we continue to walk in faith and love, more and more of God's purpose is accomplished in all of our lives.
And for us personally, we want to thank YOU! The prayers and encouragement that we receive from so many of you help us to press on to achieve those wonderful goals that lie before us. We are moving forward and the faith we exercise in His resurrection power that lives within us transforms us into an unstoppable force!
One practical goal that we have shared with you for many years is the need to turn the leadership of Ahavat Yeshua over to the younger generation. Last week this goal was advanced in a wonderful way as we set in Jonathan Moore as our first "young" elder. It was a truly momentous occasion as this officially marked the beginning of a new era in the congregation.
Since his arrival to Israel eight years ago, he and his wife Simcha have been hard working, faithful members of our congregation. He was ordained as a deacon several years ago and quickly took on much responsibility and leadership. His wife, Simcha, who has been with the congregation since its inception, was the congregational secretary for several years and now has become the director of women's activities. They are both very excited and ready to give themselves in a new way to bring about the vision they hold in their hearts for the congregation they so love!
On the same day we also set in Jeremiah as a deacon in our congregation. He has been serving faithfully as the leader of one of our worship teams for several years and has blessed the congregation in so many ways with his incredible gift of administration. His wife Rachel serves with her husband on the worship team and has worked tirelessly as the head of our children's program for the last two years.
Several months ago, we ordained 3 other deacons and now have a total of seven. We are surrounded by a faithful, hardworking and YOUNG team who are helping us as we labor to see Messiah Yeshua made known in Jerusalem.
Please pray for Jonathan and Simcha and Jeremiah and Rachel as they begin this new chapter in their lives. Pray also for all the other emerging young leaders, including our recently installed diaconate. We are blessed with so many wonderful young people who are being raised up to take their place at the appointed time.
Here are some other areas that we encourage you to pray for in the coming weeks. Each is important and has a significant part to play in the future development of Ahavat Yeshua.
1. Evangelism - Jackie and I have been used powerfully by God during our year plus of extensive time in the local hospital. We have grown in faith and vision as we have laid hands on and prayed for many non-believers. Our heart is to see this boldness develop in our people. God gives us his light, not to hide under a basket but to pour out into areas of darkness. Pray that many others would be encouraged to reach out to the lost in various ways.
2. Home meetings - The goal of increasing the number and quality of home meetings continues to be high priority. Over the next few months we expect to establish several additional meetings in new neighborhoods. Please pray with us that many who attend Ahavat Yeshua would commit themselves to faithful involvement in these meetings. Also pray for those who are discipling and preparing the current and future leadership of these small but important groups.
3. Children's Program - The number of young children in the congregation is increasing quickly through births and new families. Please join us in praying for new and gifted people to be added to the leadership team of this ministry. Pray that God's anointing would rest on the weekly classes and the teachers would be able to impart the life and love of Yeshua to the students.
4. Community - A number of new and wonderful families have recently started attending the congregation. Pray that each would find their place and would feel loved and connected to the community and begin to serve according to the calling and gifting in their lives.
Personal Health Update
On August 30, I finished all the treatments for my second bout with cancer. I am feeling better every day as my body recovers and we are believing that by God's resurrection power, we have been victorious in our battle against cancer.
On Monday Sept 19, I will have my regular bimonthly MRI of my brain to confirm that the cancer has not returned. I will also undergo a PET-scan in a few months to confirm that there is no cancer in my throat. Please join us in agreeing that ALL CANCER IS GONE FROM MY BODY AND THAT IT CAN NEVER RETURN!
Again, we praise God and thank you for being there and standing with us. Words will never express the depth of the love and appreciation that we feel towards you. Be assured that you have a regular place in our daily prayers. May His glory and joy fill your life in every way.
We send you our love from Zion,
